News Of The Day
By: Jerry Xiao
Every other day I'm going to be writing about the most weird, akward, exciting, interesting, funny, stupid, or embarrassing news on the web on that day. Most of my titles will be coming from Yahoo! and the occasional Google. I will include a summary and a link to the original article if available. Here goes.
Olympics
1) After a huge upset by the Chinese woman's gymnastics team, USA may have a chance to get a gold in gymnastics one more time. There's been huge hype building up for Shawn Johnson, the 2007 world champion of all-around woman gymnast. Teammate Nastia Liukin also made it into the finals of the venue, and has a chance to get gold as well. China's Yang Yilin and Jiang Yuyuan will also have a chance to beat out the United States.
2) Team USA basketball beat Greece 92-69. Greece beat Team USA last games, forcing the Team USA to settle for a bronze in the games. Since then, USA has been humiliated and embarrassed by not getting the gold in a sport that they invented. This years Team USA features league high scorer Lebron James, last year's playoff MVP Dwayne Wade, this year's MVP Kobe Bryant, and a host of other NBA stars. The new Team USA, deemed the "Redeem Team", has been owning on the courts, beating it's competitors easily with 20 points or more.
Legends Made And Lost
3) News came out today featuring the legendary bigfoot. Three hunters from Georgia claim that they have evidence and DNA that shows that they captured a bigfoot. The beast was tracked down in the northern Georgian woods, and the hunters claim that there were more than one around. A picture of the alledged beast can be found at http://www.searchingforbigfoot.com/ and a press conference is being held on August 15th in Palo Alto, where the evidence will be shown to the world. A recent video on the web sports a chupacabra in texas, where a deputy claims to have videotaped the famed creature. However, many people claim that the alledged animal is merely a disfigured dog.
4) Legend Isaac Hayes died at the age of 65. Officials say the reason of death was a stroke relataed to high blood pressure. He was found dead in his home. Also, Comedian Bernie Mac died due to complications from pneumonia and lung disease. He died at the age of 50.

Can't We All Just Get Along?
5) On the day of one of the most celebrated sports events of the world, Russia and U.S. Ally Georgia broke out into all out war. Russia agreed to a truce after Georgia was half decimated. However, Georgian officials are saying that Russia is still advancing even after the truce was called. The U.S. has sent aid to the country. The United States has been finding a way to punish Russia for it's actions but there is no clear advantage for the United States. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili claims that Russia already controls one-third of Georgia and are advancing on the nations second largest city.

Bigfoot Spotted?
Three hunters from Georgia claim to have found the body of the legendary bigfoot. They are holding a press conference August 15th at Palo Alto, California. They claim that they have DNA evidence of Bigfoot, though the body will not be shown tommorow (probably for a good reason). The three hunters are Matthew Witton, Rick Dyer, and Tom Biscardi. Biscardi is owner of the website http://www.searchingforbigfoot.com/ and has already been the source of one false alarm before. The body of the beast is said to be found in the northern woods of Georgia. Some facts listed on the website are:
- The creature is seven feet seven inches tall.
- It weighs over five hundred pounds.
- The creature looks like it is part human and part ape-like.
- It is male.
- It has reddish hair and blackish-grey eyes.
- It has two arms and two legs, and five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot.
- The feet are flat and similar to human feet.
- Its footprint is sixteen and three-quarters inches long and five and three-quarters inches wide at the heel.
- From the palm of the hand to the tip of the middle finger, its hands are eleven and three-quarters inches long and six and one-quarter inches wide.
- The creatures walk upright. (Several of them were sighted on the same day that the body was found.)
- The teeth are more human-like than ape-like.
- DNA tests are currently being done and the current DNA and photoevidence will be presented at the press conference on Friday, August 15th.
A picture of the alleged beast can be found on Biscardi's site.
The news comes after a chupacabra sighting in texas. A Texas deputy videotaped what he believes is a chupacabra and the video has been circulating the internet for a while. Some people believe it is nothing but a weird looking dog, but since the body was not captured, that can not be proven.
