Never Mess With Mother Nature

Hurricane Gustav is quickly turning into a Category 5 hurricane as it nears New Orleans. Just three years after the devastating hurricane Katrina that ripped through New Orleans, residents are heeding the warnings of officials by leaving New Orleans. Gustav has already hit Cuba and Jamaica, killing at least 100 people and devastating more homes. In Cuba, residents returned to find flooded homes and washed-out roads. Florida has already been hit by a strong hurricane, flooding out roads and washing away homes. Gustav is due to hit anywhere between Florida and Texas. When passing Cuba, Gustav was already clocked at Category 5 with 140mph winds. Gustav has already killed about 84 people in the Dominican island of Haiti.

The GOP convention is also being hit hard, despite being set far from hurricane country. He started the day with news that President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be attending due to different reasons. Bush and Cheney were to stay in the white house to watch over Hurricane Gustav. Schwarzenegger cancelled because of a long due budget plan that the legislature hasn't sent out yet. Schwarzenegger has been in a deadlock battle against state legislatures of passing a budget, which is two months overdue. Later today, Senator and Presidential Nominee John McCain completely cancelled the convention, saying that he would be spending the day doing Hurricane Gustav related things. He was quoted as saying, "This is a time when we have to do away with our party politics and we have to act as Americans.*" All but the necessary opening day events would be rescheduled.
